Luxury Wedding Planner – how to create a wedding design
As a luxury wedding planner, one of the main elements of my role is to create a beautiful wedding design for my couples. I am delighted to be sharing with you Tija and Matt’s wedding design and how we created it. Their romantic wedding took place in a beautiful Castello in the hills above Florence in Italy.
Wedding Design Inspiration
As I embark on a wedding planning journey with my couples, I start to talk with them about their vision for their wedding. This involves not just a discussion around the styling, but includes all of the main elements that go into the role of a luxury wedding planner. So, for example, in the case of Tija and Matt, their dream was for a Castello wedding. All of the wedding design inspiration needed to work alongside the Castello setting. It’s really important to create a wedding design with “intention”, such that ultimately all of the different elements work together seamlessly.
Wedding Design & Pinterest
We always start the wedding design with a shared Pinterest board where I encourage the couple to pin images that “speak” to them. Inevitably, this starts off quite varied as generally it takes some time for the couple to hone in on the style, theme and colour palette that will define their wedding day. I’m more than happy with the initial variety as I believe it is a process that couples need to go through. As I start to see a pattern, I will add in suggestions of my own. But, I need to see the couples’ own inspiration for wedding design as the first step.
Wedding Design Mood Board
Part way through the Pinterest task the styling direction starts to become evident. At this stage I am able to start inspiring my couples with my own creativity. I work towards pulling together a mood board for the day. The mood board will showcase the colour palette and wedding design inspiration in an overall cohesive theme.
Wedding Design Brief
Next it is time to get into the real detail. We create a brief for a florist and alongside that we consider all of the other wedding design elements:
- Mise en Place – this is their dinner table design and includes their linens, furniture, tableware and glassware
- Wedding stationery – this includes not just the invitation suite but also the table plan, menus and place cards and other stationery elements
- Guest favours
- Ceremony design
- Floorplans and layouts
- Statement installations and features such as Tija and Matt’s beautifully styled gift table
From then on it’s all down to logistics and planning. For Tija and Matt – indeed for all of my couples – I ensured that we had all of the right suppliers for the day. Suppliers who were able to deliver the vision, who bought into the wedding design. And, most importantly, who were passionate about helping to create magical memories for Tija and Matt, their families and their guests.
Detailed meetings are held with each supplier to ensure that they are clear about the brief and to hear their ideas and suggestions. There are floral mock ups, table set ups, stationery samples and proofs, fabric samples and many other individual elements. All are carefully designed and curated to ensure that the entire scheme comes together and works together cohesively.
On the Day
On the day, everyone worked towards a detailed plan that I had drawn up in collaboration with each of the suppliers and which was signed off by the couple. For any couple there is a huge leap of faith from agreeing a scheme on paper to seeing it come to fruition. Tija and Matt were delighted with the outcome and their wedding has been featured by both 5* wedding directory and You and Your Wedding
